Bahati

Popular musician Kevin Kioko alias Bahati is now eyeing a gubernatorial position after being defeated in 2022 elections.

Bahati lost in the Mathare MP elections to Anthony Oluoch, who contested on an ODM ticket. This is however after he was asked to step down in favour of the ODM politician to which he didn’t agree to.

The Adhiambo hitmaker made his gubernatorial political ambitions clear during a recent concert, revealing that he would soon enrol for a degree because that is one of the key requirements.

“Nilianguka MP, lakini juu nasimama governor nakuja hapa kufanya degree,” he told his audience. At this stage one can’t tell whether he will vie for Nairobi governor’s seat or another county’s.

Bahati might actually be serious about his political career as in the recent days, he has been spotted in functions with President William Ruto. He has also been referring to himself as ‘rafiki wa Rais’.

Initially he expressed regret for not vying for Mathare MP seat on a UDA ticket. According to him, he would have not only won the race with the ticket but also saved himself the frustrations he underwent when he decided to vie through a Jubilee ticket.

“If I had that ticket ningekuwa bunge sahi, the biggest mistake I ever did in my life. Running away from UDA. I don’t regret anything because the key to success is starting when you are not ready,” Bahati said in September while making an apprearance on the Chipukeezy show.

He added that he is usually ashamed to go near Ruto because he is the first person who trusted his political ambitions, only for him to betray him by siding with his opponents.

“Sitakangi kukaribia presdent juu naskia aibu because he trusted me. Its like your dad and then  I remember when nilimwambia hivyo akaniuliza what are you doing nikamwambia I am feeding people in Mathare, he gave  me the first food that I ever distributed in Mathare, I fed 5000 families, he gave me the first support.

“I saved H.E William Ruto as the fifth a long time ago, but I was confused, you see you don’t want to be against the government…”he further said.

Following his declaration to go for a gubernatorial position, a section of Kenyans believe that it is a dream that might never materialize as well.
