Kenya is celebrating Mashujaa Day today,  in honor of all heroes and heroines that have made a positive impact on the nation.

Celebrated every 20th of October, The commemorates the heroes and heroines termed in Swahili as shujaas.

Initially, Mashujaa Day was known as Kenyatta Day and it was celebrated in honor of the founding father of the nation Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.

The change occurred after the constitution got promulgated on August 24 2010  paving the stage for the nation to honor all heroes.

The celebrations happen all over the country with governors leading celebrations in their areas of jurisdication.

The president crowns the mashujaa day celebrations in a chosen county every year by attending as the main chief guest.

This year, Ruto will be taking the party and the holiday moods to Kericho county which is one of the president’s strong holds.

Cultural displays, traditional dances, and music performances will therefore be the order of the day as they are also a significant part of the celebrations.

Members of the public also look forward to the military’s grandeur and colorful display which has now become part of the Mashujaa day celebrations culture.

The unity and pride felt on Mashujaa Day are palpable as people from various ethnic backgrounds set aside differences to come together and celebrate their shared history

In recent years, Mashujaa Day has also become a platform for discussions on the nation’s progress and challenges, and this year it is no different.

Kenyans are looking forward to speech addresses from the president and the sitting cabinet.

They are hopeful that the President will speak on the issue of the rising cost of living and the Mavoko demolitions which have taken over the news since last week.

Mashujaa Day is a testament to Kenya’s rich history and the heroes who have shaped the nation’s destiny. It is a day to celebrate the past, inspire the present, and dream of a brighter future.
