In a tragic incident in Bondo,  a dispute over food between siblings led to the death of the eldest, sending shockwaves through the community.

The confrontation unfolded between a Form Four student at Jaramogi Oginga secondary school, whose identity is withheld due to their age, and his elder brother, Brian Otieno.

According to Assistant Chief Kennedy Omollo, the conflict erupted after the 18-year old suspect opted to feed the remaining food to their dog, a decision that didn’t sit well with Brian. The disagreement escalated into a serious altercation, culminating in the suspect reportedly grabbing a panga and striking his elder brother on the neck, causing fatal injuries that resulted to Otieno’s untimely demise at the scene.

Law enforcement and emergency services were immediately notified. The body of the deceased was subsequently transported to the Bondo sub-county mortuary, awaiting further procedures, including a postmortem examination.

The Assistant Chief expressed shock and sadness over the incident, emphasizing the necessity of addressing conflicts and disputes within families to prevent such tragic outcomes. He urged for community support and counseling to both the affected family and the student involved.

Authorities are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the dispute and the subsequent fatality. The alleged perpetrator is currently in custody, pending legal proceedings, as the case is being treated with the utmost seriousness.

The school, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Secondary, declined to comment, expressing condolences to the affected family and assuring cooperation with the ongoing investigation.
