All of the English teams participating in the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA ) Europa league made it through to the knockout phase of the competition after successful matches yesterday.

Brighton and Hove Albion beat AEK Athens to secure a chance in the round of 16.

The seagulls who are playing for the very first time in the competition, managed to collect all the three points in Greece after failing to do so at home.

Brazilian star Joao Pedro was clinical on the spot again after scoring two goals on the spot in the reverse fixture.

This means Brighton will be advancing to the next phase even if they lose to Olympic de Marseille on 14th December. Brighton will however need to win the match in order to avoid the February play – offs.

Liverpool reached the last 16 of the competition after thrashing LASK 4 – 0.

The reds had total control of the game in the first fifteen minutes which saw them lead with a two – goal difference.

Cody Gakpo,  hit the back of the net twice, doubling the score three minutes after Luiz Diaz opened the score for the hosts in the 12th minute.

Mohamed Salah who was the elected man of the match was also on the score sheet after sending the goalkeeper Tobias Lawal the wrong way six minutes into the second half.

Toulouse’s failure to beat Royale Union SG means the reds will not be caught up on the table and will avoid the play – offs whatsoever.

West Ham united managed to secure all the three points away from home thanks to Tomas Soucek.

The Czech Republic International who has scored all of West Ham’s winning goals in the last three consecutive games, ensured the visitors go top of Group A.

The Hammers host German side Freiburg at London Stadium on 14th this month. Just like Brighton, the Hammers hey will be looking to bag all the three points at home to avoid the play – offs.
