Tragedy has struck a young couple in Nakuru after all five of their newborn babies passed away few hours after death at Nakuru Level Five Hospital 

According to the hospital’s superintendent Dr Aisha Maina all the five children who were born yesterday(Wednesday)died on Thursday morning, February 2 2023.

The babies were delivered seven months into the pregnancy and the four girls weighed 500 grams and while boys weighed 650 grams at the time of birth.

These according to medics presents significant challenges for survival even though they had to be placed under incubation however ,they passed away.

The birth of the quintuplets had captured the hearts of Kenyans, many of whom congratulated the young couple on social media.

The young parents, Simon Ndung’u Kinyanjui and Margaret Wairimu, were overjoyed by the news of the quintuplets and expressed their gratitude to God for the opportunity.

“Nashukuru Mungu sana kwa kunipea hii chance kwa sababu ni wengi sana wanatafuta watoto usiku na mchana. Wengine wanaiba, wengine wanaenda kwa wachawi lakini mimi nimepewa na Mungu bure,” Ndungu told the press.

Speaking to the press on February 1, Ndung’u, who is a matatu tout, stated that he did not expect his wife to deliver five children.

“The pre-natal scans indicated that she (Wangui) was expecting three children. It was an ultrasound during her last trimester which revealed the other two,” he stated.

Consequently, the 28-year-old pleaded with the public to step in and financially help as he could not sustain all six of his children on his tout salary.

This is the third death related to the birth of quintuplets in the country. In 2019, a woman from Kakamega who delivered five children died while receiving treatment in a hospital.

Doctors disclosed that the chest pains she complained of before her death was caused by blood clots which blocked vessels in her lungs.

In 2017, an entire set of quintuplets born in Kisii died. two first, followed by three, after they contracted pneumonia days after their birth
