Ruto

In a groundbreaking announcement, President William Ruto revealed the imminent launch of a digital identification system, enabling Kenyans to conduct transactions without the need for physical identification documents.

Speaking on the launch of East Africa Device Assembly Kenya plant in Athi River, Machakos County. The president outlined the impending rollout of an advanced identification system harnessing iris and fingerprint recognition.

“The digital ID, which has been a major problem to us for a very long time is now on testing mode for the next two months. I have been assured by all the stakeholders led by the ministries concerned that by December we will be able to launch digital ID where every Kenyan doesn’t have to carry any paper, plastic, or otherwise as an ID. They should be able to be identified digitally using their iris or their fingerprints, and we can transact without the necessity of people struggling to identify who they are,” the head of state said.

The president’s announcement marks a significant step towards a technologically advanced and efficient identification and transaction system, aiming to streamline processes and enhance security measures in the country.

The proposed digital identification mechanism is anticipated to revolutionize the way Kenyans engage in day-to-day transactions, removing the reliance on physical identification cards and offering a more secure, convenient, and futuristic approach.

The utilization of biometric data such as iris scans and fingerprints seeks to establish a robust, foolproof system that will simplify and secure various transactions across sectors, including financial, healthcare, government services, and more.

The anticipated launch aligns with Kenya’s aspirations to lead in technological advancements, paving the way for a future where individuals can seamlessly prove their identity and conduct transactions securely, without the burden of carrying physical identity cards.
