Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Leader, Raila Odinga has asked  Kenya Kwanza administration, led by President William Samoei Ruto, to cut its operational budget by an estimated 500 Billion Shillings and reduce the cost of living so as to relieve Citizens from the high taxes.

Speaking during the ‘Transforming a Nation’ Conference held by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Foundation in Nairobi on 10th October, Odinga said the current policies implemented by Kenya Kwanza Government have affected low income households contrary to the promises they made of lifting up such families.

“If you asked Kenyans are you better off today than you were at this time last year, the answer will be obvious that we are in a deep hole” Odinga stated.

Raila who criticized the Hustler Fund said Kenyans had shun away from it because of its high charged rates compared to the loans offered by Saccos, commercial banks and micro-finance banks thus making the fund fall in the category of non-performing loans.

He went ahead to point out how the rapid but unstable tax policies implemented by the Kenya Kwanza administration has scared away foreign investors an action which has been leading to low revenue collections. From his speech Odinga gave an example of  6, 256 foreign investors from the Nairobi Security Exchange who fled in the last nine months.

Raila added that the issue of borrowing more to settle debts is not a good way of managing debts.

The Azimio La Umoja Party Leader highlighted on the need of discussing and reviewing the Government’s basic initiatives including the Hustler Fund. Odinga who shared a background story of how he was in Germany during its days of transformation and reconstruction after the second world war concluded two things; transforming a nation takes hard, dedicated and honest labour of leaders and citizens and also noted that no nation is beyond  reconstruction and transformation.
