Robert Ng’eno the Kenyan who came in third in the just  concluded Buenos Aires Marathon in Argentina is seeking compensation for the losses he incurred during the race after a stray dog attacked him.

The runner led the race from the 25km mark to the 38km mark, but the dog’s chase disrupted his concentration, causing him to drop to the third position

Despite the adversity at hand, he finished the race  under the required two hours and ten minutes scooping a whooping Sh 300,000 which was less the amount he would have taken home  had he immerged the winner.

Ng’eno argued that he would have won the race since he had adequately prepared adding that he was part of the leading group until the 12th minute when the unthinkable happened.

He recounted the terrifying experience to members of the press stating that the dog charged at him  unprovoked forcing him to wrestle the wild beast as the other competitors run past him

“That Argentinian dog was on the side, it saw me, I don’t know if it got startled, but we fought with that dog for about a minute, at the time, other competitors were way behind as I fought with that dog. I  was well-prepared for that race, I was able to run well with my colleagues, up to twelve kilometers,” the marathoner stated

Ng’eno further explained that his target was to cross the 21 Kilometer mark in one hour and three minutes but his ambitions were cut short by the dog incident.

The athlete lamented how his cries for help fell on deaf ears  before owing his good health to a woman who calmed the dog down by talking to it.

“While struggling with that dog, nobody bothered to help, it is a woman who later communicated to the dog to calm down after the struggle. After the unfortunate incident,  I went on to about thirty kilometers but I had already lost my concentration,” he stated.

The athlete now blames the incident for his unsatisfactory performance and is pushing for compensation.

On their part, Athletics Kenya says they are yet to receive an official complaint from the athlete.
