The chairperson of  the Council of Governors, Anne Waiguru has reacted after Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza was impeached.

The Kirinyaga governor said that she stands with Mwangaza. She went on to urge her to  look upon God for help during this trying times.

“Asiye kuwa na wake ana Mungu…I stand with you my sister Gvn Kawira Mwangaza. Its darkest before dawn. Look to the hills from where your help comes from …There is God IN heaven,” Waiguru shared online.

Mwangaza was unanimously impeached by the Meru County Assembly on Wednesday evening after a second motion aimed to remove her from power was tabled by the majority leader Evans Mawira.

59 MCAs supported the motion by voting in favour of her removal. 10 MCAs however did not vote as they were not present during the 10-hour debate.

The MCAs accused Mwangaza of violating national and county laws, leading to her impeachment. She faced seven counts which included nepotism, public resources misuse, gross misconduct, bullying and contempt of court among others.

The governor, who has been in office for only a year was elected during the 2022 general elections on an independent ticket.

She had however tried to block her impeachment by filing an appeal in court but the court decline to grant her wish, saying it will rule on the matter on Friday October 27.

This however has not been the only impeachment attempt Mwangaza. The first attempt was in December last year, ju but she was saved by the senate at there was no sufficient evidence to prove allegations that had been labelled against her.

The MCAs however never ceased fighting her.
