With  the ongoing heavy rains, and flooding all over the country, an expectant woman has shocked many Kenyans after crossing a deadly seasonal river in order to deliver in a hospital in Tana River county .

The woman said that her clinic officer had told her that she had a week to deliver but the forces of nature proved otherwise. She narrates that she was sitting in a tent telling stories and laughing with her aunt and when she suddenly felt a sharp cramp and dashed out of the tent since she knew it was time to have medical attention.

“I was just sitting in the tent with my aunt, telling stories and laughing when I heard a sharp cramp that brought me to my feet I don’t know how I got out of the tent but I knew it was time I get serious medical attention,” she said.

The woman identified as Sadia says that by the time she was leaving the tent, the rain was pouring heavily but she still continued with her distressing journey towards the flooded Galole. She continues to say that she was halfway across the river when a man on the other side saw her and rushed to help her cross the river. Her aunt and two other friends joined hands in order to cross the then fast moving river.

She says that pain stroke her immediately she got out of the water which had relieved her pain resulting to her getting back in the water and sitting down with only her head above water. Woth the help of men, they pulled her out of the water and rushed her to the hospital by foot for several distance since there was absence of vehicles. Finally they reached the hospital where Sadina gave birth to a baby boy but she was too tired to walk back home.

Eshah Ismail a traditional mid wife who accompanied Sadina noted that the river they crossed had washed several people and that they were only Lucky to Have God on their side.

“This place has a history of death men, women and children have been washed away. I guess God was with us that day,”Ismail noted.

During these time several people may also be challenged the same and this has raised concerns and a call for help to the people leaving in the area.
