Kenya has marked 60 years since it became a republic. President William Ruto led the country in celebrating Jamhuri Day, in an event that was organized at Uhuru Gardens.

During the celebrations, the entertainment programme was however carried out differently, featuring artists who graced the screens from way back to the present. Popular movie commentator DJ Afro led the entertainment programme as captured in the video below.

The move to have DJ Afro on the lineup has sparked mixed reactions among Kenyans.

DJ Afro entertaining Kenyans at the Jamhuri Day celebrations. This is the only important thing we will hear today from Uhuru Gardens. Any other thing won’t change the life of Kenyans who are going through hardships now,” Alinur Mohammed shared on X.

Another X user opined that, “It is very shameful kuleta DJ Afro in a national celebration knowing very well the way he corrupted youths morally coining very uncouth words Kama vile kuguthana ururu makagare lemme not mention more, it is so shameful.”

“Proper entertainment pale UHURU GARDENS lol mpaka DJ afro yuko area 😂😂🤣🤣🤣This entertainment bit could be one for the books,” read another comment.

Several world leader have however joined Kenyans in celebrating Jamhuri Day.

In his statement,  King Charles III lauded the country as well as president William Ruto the 60 years celebration of Kenya being a free state as well as the partnership that the country has entered into with UK.

On the other hand, US secretary of state Anthony Blinken commended Kenya for its partnership with US, saying. “We look to forward to continuing to deepen our close economic partnership for the benefit of Kenyans and Americans alike. The people of Kenya can continue to count on the United States as a dedicated friend as we address our shared challenges.”
