Kenyans on Twitter have poured out their reactions in towards  Chief Justice Martha Koome’s expensive car that she was chauffeured in, to the Madaraka Day celebrations in Embu.

The twitter uproar of the have’s and have nots in relations to the state of livelihoods of service providers was ignited by constitutional lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi.

During the Madaraka day celebrations held at the Moi stadium Embu to commemorate 60 years since Kenya attained self-governance in 1963. The Chief Justice Martha Koome was chauffeured into the venue in a state of the art  Toyota Land Cruiser 300 GR sport.

The 2023 Toyota LC 300 GR Sport SUV costs up to 23 million and it combines luxury and performance, offering a comfortable and refined interior which include  a sunroof, black roof rails, side steps, rear privacy glass, daytime running lights, fog lights and headlight washers, a built-in refrigerated cooler with four-zone climate control as well as eight cup holders and four bottle holders.

It also offers ventilated seats for the first and second-row occupants and a heated steering wheel, along with advanced off-road capabilities. Its powerful engine and off-road suspension makes it a versatile vehicle for traversing Kenya’s diverse terrain.

Martha Koome having this car marks a significant improvement for the CJ’s office as compared to retired CJ David Maraga’s tenure which was marred with numerous requests for a new taxpayer-funded car that were not fulfilled by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.

The car which has a commanding presence and sporty model sparked online debates, with some questioning why the chief justice is using the expensive SUV, yet it is alleged the country has no money.

Constitutional lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi also questioned how ridiculous it is for a struggling third-world country with hungry children to spend $500,000 on one car .

“Tell me why a CJ of a poor third-world country where millions of kids sleep at night without food, with 1.5 million cases backlog, where it makes 10-15 yrs to hear a case and 6-12 months to deliver judgment will spend $500,000 to buy her 4th official car,” he said. He also added ” This is Kenya for you. Madam CJ is driven in this amazing state of the art car. Her police driver/bodyguard lives with his wife and children in this tin house…who will speak for the POOR in Kenya?”. he commented on CJ Koome’s Car.
