As Kenya Celebrates 60 years of Independence, President William Ruto has made several  promises to its citizens among them revolutionising the bodaboda sector.

Speaking in Embu on Thursday 1 June, Ruto promised launch electric powered motorbikes in September to cushion the bodaboda riders from the skyrocketing petroleum prices.

“Our boda boda industry is about to experience inclusive transformation through the introduction of more efficient, affordable and profitable clean vehicles. By September, we are developing a mechanism where you can get electric bodabodas that do not operate on petrol,”  he said.

Aside form that, the head of state promised to create millions of new jobs to Kenyan youths so that they can be independent and also be able to improve their lives. He said this move will help the government by enabling expansion of collection of national revenue.

“Is it more tax or more people paying tax? We will empower more Kenyans to enter the taxable income category through intentional effort to create millions of new job,” Ruto said.

On the seemingly increasing cost of university and college education, President Ruto said his government has come up with a model that will ensure equity and affordable prices in the cost of tertiary and higher education.

He further assured Kenyans that he will see to it that everyone has access to a good health care system irregardless of their social status. He also promised to make changes to the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to be accessible to everyone.

“Towards this end, we are reforming the National Health Insurance Fund to meet the urgent needs of Kenyans at the bottom of the socioeconomic structure by actualising its purpose as a social medical insurance facility. Secondly, we have committed to deliver universal health coverage that enables every Kenyan attain dignified healthcare at the minimal cost of a subscription fee” the president further explained.

While touching on the ongoing political heat in the country, Ruto promised to work with all leaders for the good of the nation.
