Media personality Betty Kyalo’s mega-investment in Karen, The Summer House is feared of facing closure following complaints from furious residents.

Residents of Lang’ata and Karen expressed their discomfort about the operations of the restaurant through a joint letter via the Karen and Lang’ata District Association complaining of the levels of noise pollution the facility produces at night.

“We demand that the Nairobi City County Government immediately closes the facility and withdraw any approvals or licenses issued to The Summer House,” read part of the letter.

The residents further complained of lack of public participation faulting the club owner, Betty Kyalo for supposedly not observing the requisite before developing the property.

The residents also called on the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) or Nairobi County(NEMA)and the Nairobi county government for not informing them of the expected change from residential use to commercial.

“There was no public participation exercise conducted to give residents an opportunity to vent their views about the planned development,” the residents said stating that there was no circular in the public eye announcing the change.
